Marvel Studios returned to San Diego Comic-Con’s legendary Hall H stage with a showcase packed with surprises, star power, and major updates that sent fans into a frenzy. From the introduction of a new Ghost Rider to the next chapter of Wakanda’s legacy, Marvel’s presentation delivered plenty of news about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The studio’s highly anticipated panel featured appearances from some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Ryan Gosling, Robert Downey Jr., Pedro Pascal, Ryan Reynolds, Jon Bernthal, and more, while Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige offered a glimpse at what’s coming next for the MCU.

Ryan Gosling Joins the MCU as Marvel’s New Ghost Rider
The biggest surprise of the night came when the lights went down and a fiery Ghost Rider logo appeared on the Hall H screen. Moments later, Oscar-nominated actor Ryan Gosling walked onto the stage, officially confirming that he will take on the role of Marvel’s supernatural Spirit of Vengeance.
Fresh off his acclaimed performance in Project Hail Mary, Gosling told the crowd that playing Ghost Rider has been a role he has wanted for years.
“As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time,” Gosling said.
The upcoming Ghost Rider film will be directed by Shawn Levy, who previously collaborated with Gosling on the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter. According to Levy, the idea of bringing Ghost Rider to life came up during production, leading to a simple agreement between the two: “Bro, let’s ride.”
Marvel confirmed the film is expected to hit theaters in 2028.
The character was previously portrayed by Nicolas Cage in 2007’s Ghost Rider and its 2011 sequel, but Gosling’s version will mark the character’s official introduction into the MCU.
David Jonsson Takes Over the Black Panther Legacy in Black Panther III
Marvel also revealed the next chapter of Wakanda’s story with the announcement of Black Panther III, with director Ryan Coogler taking the stage to share details about the upcoming sequel.
The film received an official release date of December 15, 2028.
Coogler introduced British actor David Jonsson as the new Black Panther, continuing the legacy established by Chadwick Boseman’s beloved portrayal of King T’Challa. Jonsson, known for his work in The Long Walk, appeared alongside returning stars Letitia Wright and Winston Duke.
While Marvel is keeping story details under wraps, Jonsson expressed his excitement and gratitude for taking on such an important role.
“I don’t want to say too much, because I want to let the screen do the talking, but believe me, the honor is entirely mine,” Jonsson said.
New Avengers: Doomsday Footage Introduces Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom
One of the most anticipated moments of the panel centered on Avengers: Doomsday, which gave fans their first major look at Robert Downey Jr.’s transformation from Iron Man to Marvel’s iconic villain Doctor Doom.
The new footage opened with Victor Von Doom seated on a throne, as Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) described his tragic transformation.
“Victor was always the smartest guy in every room. He used to be different. He used to be kind. He used to be caring. And then, everything he loved was taken from him.”
The footage also featured Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards confronting Doom, questioning whether he was responsible for the events unfolding around them.
A dramatic montage followed, ending with Doom declaring:
“All of you have lived stolen lives. You must give them back.”
The Russo Brothers — Joe and Anthony Russo — also returned to Hall H to discuss the massive crossover event. To accommodate the enormous cast, Marvel revealed that members of the Avengers: Doomsday ensemble were positioned on platforms throughout the back of Hall H, with separate groups representing the Avengers and the X-Men.
The presentation featured appearances from Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr., who embraced his new villainous identity with a memorable line:
“It’s not easy being green.”
The cast then joined together for a massive Hall H celebration and group selfie with fans.
Ryan Reynolds Brings Deadpool Energy to Hall H
No Marvel event would be complete without some chaos from Deadpool.
During the panel, Robert Downey Jr. spotted a fan wearing a gray Deadpool costume and invited them to speak. The fan quickly revealed himself to be Ryan Reynolds, who delivered his trademark humor while questioning Marvel about the mysterious Thor storyline teased in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Reynolds jokingly asked:
“Where is Thor, and why was he crying?”
The actor then joked about joining an upcoming Marvel project, only to learn that the film had already been completed.
Classic Deadpool fashion followed, with Reynolds dropping the microphone and walking away.
Punisher and Hulk Face Off in Spider-Man: Brand New Day Footage
Jon Bernthal also made a surprise appearance to discuss his return as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Although Kevin Feige initially suggested they would not reveal much about the upcoming Spider-Man sequel, Bernthal had other plans.
“You guys wanna see something?” he asked the crowd.
Marvel then debuted footage featuring The Punisher and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man teaming up against a powerful threat: the Hulk.
The reveal immediately became one of the most talked-about moments of the presentation.
Marvel Celebrates the Return of Avengers: Endgame
The panel also looked back at one of Marvel Studios’ biggest cinematic milestones with the announcement of an upcoming theatrical re-release of Avengers: Endgame.
A new trailer debuted for the return of the 2019 blockbuster, celebrating the film’s impact as a worldwide cinematic event.
The re-release arrives in theaters September 25.
