Paramount To Buy Warner Bros In A Blockbuster Deal

Warner Bros Discovery has agreed to be acquired by Paramount Skydance in a $110 billion deal, ending a high-stakes bidding war after Netflix walked away. The deal, with an equity value of $81 billion, is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, both companies said last week.

The merger between the two companies would create a mega media powerhouse, combining major studios and networks such as CNN and CBS. This combination would let the companies compete more aggressively, as streaming platforms have upended the industry by drawing audiences away from traditional TV.

Paramount+ accounts for 1.6 percent of all viewing time in the United States, and HBO Max represents an additional 1.2 percent, according to Nielsen.  WBD has been on a rollercoaster the last couple of years, and has continued to lag behind in profits compared to the more profitable streaming and studios businesses.

Hopefully, the two combined companies will be a blessing for WBD and Paramount and will bring new fans on board.
