Cape Fear Is Coming: Apple TV Unleashes a Star-Studded Psychological Thriller in 2026

A storm of prestige television is heading straight for Apple TV.

Apple has officially announced that “Cape Fear,” its upcoming psychological horror thriller, will make its global debut on Friday, June 5, 2026, kicking things off with a two-episode premiere. New episodes will then roll out weekly every Friday through July 31, delivering ten episodes of slow-burn suspense, dread, and top-tier talent.

And yes — the cast and creative team are stacked.

The limited series stars Academy Award winner Javier Bardem and Academy Award nominee Amy Adams, both of whom also serve as executive producers. The show is created, showrun, and executive produced by Nick Antosca (The Act, Channel Zero), with legendary filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg on board as executive producers. Basically, if awards season had a writers’ room, this would be it.

Inspired by Scorsese’s iconic 1991 remake, Cape Fear follows happily married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden (Adams and Patrick Wilson) whose seemingly stable lives begin to unravel when Max Cady (Bardem) — the violent criminal they helped put behind bars — is released from prison. What follows is a chilling descent into paranoia and vengeance as Cady sets his sights on making them pay.

The ensemble cast also includes CCH Pounder, Jamie Hector, Lily Collias, Malia Pyles, Joe Anders, Anna Baryshnikov, and more, rounding out a lineup that feels tailor-made for prestige thriller fans.

Produced by UCP (Universal Studio Group) and Amblin Television, the series pulls from deep cinematic roots. Cape Fear is based on the novel “The Executioners,” which inspired the original 1962 film starring Gregory Peck, as well as the celebrated 1991 adaptation directed by Scorsese and produced by Spielberg. This new iteration brings that legacy into a modern, serialized format — with plenty of room to let the tension simmer.

The pilot episode will be directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game), who also serves as an executive producer. Antosca produces alongside Alex Hedlund for Eat The Cat, while Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey executive produce for Amblin Television.

As for Apple TV, the streamer continues to build an impressive library of original content, earning hundreds of awards and thousands of nominations since launching in 2019 — including major wins for Ted Lasso, The Studio, and Oscar Best Picture winner CODA. Apple TV is available via the Apple TV app across more than a billion devices worldwide and currently costs $12.99 per month, with a free trial for new subscribers.

Bottom line? With Bardem, Adams, Scorsese, Spielberg, and a chilling story decades in the making, “Cape Fear” is shaping up to be one of 2026’s must-watch thrillers.
