Whovians, brace yourselves: on Sunday, November 23rd, Doctor Who Day is going full timey-wimey in the best possible way. BBC Studios just revealed that the Doctor’s legendary blue box is making a one-day-only stop at—wait for it—Stonehenge. Yes, that Stonehenge. Two British icons, one epic crossover moment, and a whole lot of fan squealing incoming.
The massive reveal marks the grand finale of VWORP AROUND THE WORLD, BBC Studios’ global digital treasure hunt that’s had fans decoding cryptic clues, cracking UNIT HQ-style missions, and basically channeling their inner companion all across social media. After weeks of virtual adventuring, the big finish is a real-world spectacle nobody saw coming.
In partnership with English Heritage, the TARDIS will officially “land” at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, giving fans a truly once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the Doctor’s ship materialize in one of the most ancient and mysterious locations on Earth. It’s like history meets sci-fi… with a dash of pure nerd magic.
“Doctor Who Day is all about creating unforgettable experiences for fans,” says Sarah Bold, Head of Marketing for the Doctor Who Brand at BBC Studios. “Bringing the TARDIS to Stonehenge unites two icons of British culture in a way that celebrates imagination, heritage, and fandom.” Translation: this is peak Whovian joy.
English Heritage is equally thrilled. Richard Dewdney, Stonehenge’s Operations Manager, added, “We’re excited to welcome back the Doctor Who universe to Stonehenge, having provided the backdrop to an episode fifteen years ago. We hope fans who visit us to discover the TARDIS’s location also enjoy exploring the mysteries of Stonehenge.” (Challenge accepted.)
If you can’t make it to Wiltshire for the big moment, don’t panic: you can still follow the entire adventure online. Check out the Doctor Who website, social channels, newsletter, and of course the hashtag #DoctorWhoDay, which is sure to be buzzing faster than a sonic screwdriver. And if you’re looking to round out the celebration, the Doctor Who Shop is rolling out exclusive merch inspired by every era of the show.
Time travel might not be real (yet), but this Doctor Who Day moment is about to become fandom history. Allons-y!
