Grab your flashlights and keep those security doors closed, because the FNAF cinematic universe is leveling up—and this time, the nightmare isn’t confined to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
The first Five Nights at Freddy’s movie scared up nearly $300 million at the global box office in 2023, becoming the year’s biggest horror hit and launching a full-blown revival of animatronic terror. Now, Blumhouse is powering up for the next chapter of the franchise with Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, creeping exclusively into theaters on December 5. And yes—things are about to get way, way worse.
Welcome to… Fazfest?
It’s been one year since the supernatural mayhem that left Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza permanently off the menu. The town, blissfully unaware of how real the horror was, has turned the incident into a cheesy urban legend—complete with its own tourist-trap celebration: Fazfest. (What could go wrong at a festival inspired by haunted animatronics? …Everything. The answer is everything.)
Meanwhile, former night guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and Officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have been doing what any responsible adults would do: lying through their teeth to Mike’s younger sister Abby (Piper Rubio) about the fate of her not-so-imaginary metal BFFs.
Naturally, Abby does what every determined kid in a horror movie does—sneaks out to find her old pals. Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy are back… but so is something much darker. Her heartwarming reunion quickly spirals into a fresh nightmare, unearthing twisted secrets about the origins of Fazbear Entertainment and awakening a buried evil that’s been waiting decades to strike again.
A Killer Cast (Literally, Probably)
Alongside returning favorites Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Theodus Crane, and the always-chaotic Matthew Lillard, the sequel is adding some serious star power. We’re talking:
-
Freddy Carter (Shadow and Bone)
-
Wayne Knight (Jurassic Park, Seinfeld — Newman meets Freddy? We’re SO in.)
-
Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife)
-
Horror legend Skeet Ulrich (Scream, Riverdale)
Behind the camera, director Emma Tammi returns to the helm, with the script once again coming from FNAF creator Scott Cawthon himself—so expect plenty of lore, fan-baiting Easter eggs, and animatronics that never stay where you left them.
The Team Behind the Terror
Produced by Jason Blum and Scott Cawthon, the sequel keeps its original brain trust intact. Tammi also exec-produces, alongside Beatriz Sequeira, Christopher Warner, Russell Binder, and Marc Mostman.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 isn’t just upping the scares—it’s breaking out of the pizzeria and unleashing a full-city fright fest. Consider this your warning: Freddy and friends are on the move, and no place is safe.
