Get ready to ring in the new year Upside Down-style. Netflix just dropped the ultimate news for Stranger Things fans everywhere — the long-awaited series finale of Stranger Things 5 is not only premiering on Netflix this December 31st at 5:00 PM PT, but it’s also heading to select theaters across the U.S. and Canada for an unforgettable fan celebration event!
That’s right — on December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026, over 350 theaters will open their doors to fans who want to experience the Hawkins crew’s final showdown together, surrounded by fellow die-hards, popcorn in hand, and plenty of emotional damage incoming.
The Duffer Brothers told Netflix’s Tudum that bringing the finale to theaters is something they’ve “dreamed about for years,” adding:
“Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect — dare we say bitchin’ — way to celebrate the end of this adventure.”
Can’t make it to a theater? No worries — the finale (Episode 508) will drop globally on Netflix at the same time as the screenings. The final season is rolling out in three volumes:
-
Volume 1 (Episodes 501–504): November 26
-
Volume 2 (Episodes 505–507): December 25
-
The Finale (Episode 508): December 31
Each volume premieres at 5 PM PT, giving fans worldwide a synchronized return to Hawkins one last time.
🔥 What’s Going Down in Stranger Things 5
The year is 1987, and Hawkins has never been darker. The Rifts have torn through the town, Vecna is MIA, and the government has locked everything down under military control. Eleven is back in hiding, and the clock is ticking as the anniversary of Will’s disappearance looms — along with a brand-new darkness even more terrifying than before.
To survive, they’ll need the full party — every last hero — standing side by side for the final battle.
💥 A Cultural Phenomenon Comes Full Circle
Since its 2016 debut, Stranger Things has become more than a show — it’s a pop culture juggernaut. From resurrecting Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” to inspiring countless fan theories, cosplay, and D&D campaigns, it’s one of Netflix’s biggest hits ever, with over 140 million views in Season 4 alone.
The series has racked up more than 70 major awards (including Emmys® and a SAG Award for Best Ensemble) and over 230 nominations, cementing its place in TV history.
And if you think the Hawkins story ends with the finale — think again. The Stranger Things universe is expanding with:
-
“Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” the award-winning stage play
-
An animated spin-off, “Tales From ’85”
-
The immersive Stranger Things Experience (now in Brazil and Australia)
-
Stranger Things: Escape the Dark and the upcoming Netflix House experience
Plus, fans can always celebrate Stranger Things Day on November 6th — the date Will Byers first vanished into the Upside Down.
