The official trailer for Fairyland—a moving adaptation of Alysia Abbott’s acclaimed memoir Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father—has debuted today, teasing a deeply human story set against the bohemian backdrop of 1970s and ’80s San Francisco.
Directed and penned by Andrew Durham in his feature debut, the film traces the ups and downs of a father-daughter relationship complicated by grief, identity, and changing cultural landscapes. Scoot McNairy portrays Steve Abbott, a poet and activist who, following the tragic death of his wife, comes out as gay. He embarks on a second adolescence while raising his daughter Alysia, played in adulthood by Emilia Jones and in childhood by Nessa Dougherty.

A richly talented ensemble bolsters the story, including Geena Davis as grandmother Munca, Maria Bakalova, Cody Fern, Bella Murphy, and Adam Lambert, who brings a personal tie to the setting through his family’s history in San Francisco’s Castro district.
Produced by Sofia Coppola alongside Durham, Fairyland premiered to warm reviews at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and holds a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, praised for its heartfelt performances and evocative atmosphere.
The trailer’s release marks another step toward anticipation as Lionsgate and Willa gear up for the film’s theatrical launch on October 10, 2025.
