The walkers aren’t done with Manhattan just yet — The Walking Dead: Dead City is officially coming back for a thrilling third season, and there’s a major name returning behind the scenes!
AMC Networks has confirmed that the hit spinoff, starring fan-favorite duo Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the ever-snarling Negan and Lauren Cohan as the fierce Maggie, will continue its apocalyptic adventures this fall, with filming set to begin in Boston, MA.
But that’s not all — Seth Hoffman, a Walking Dead alum who penned some of the franchise’s most unforgettable episodes (“Too Far Gone,” anyone?), is stepping in as showrunner. With writing credits on House and Prison Break, Hoffman brings a powerful punch of experience and storytelling grit to the already intense world of Dead City.
“We’re beyond grateful to Eli Jorné for his incredible work bringing new depth to these iconic characters and expanding the universe in such a gripping way,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios. “Now, with Seth Hoffman leading the charge and the powerhouse team of Cohan and Morgan returning, fans can expect even more jaw-dropping twists, gritty alliances, and unexpected threats.”
And yes — Maggie and Negan are still trying to make it work. Season 3 finds the uneasy allies attempting to build the first functioning community in post-apocalyptic Manhattan, but (shocker!) the peace doesn’t last. As unrest simmers and danger brews, they’ll be forced to confront a burning question: Can you ever really bury the past… or does it come back swinging with a barbed-wire bat?
Hoffman, clearly just as thrilled as the fans, shared, “Jumping back into the Walking Dead Universe is a true honor. Maggie and Negan’s dynamic is iconic, and I’m excited to explore where their story goes next. Working with Lauren, Jeffrey, and Scott is an absolute dream.”
Season 2 wrapped up on June 22 on AMC and AMC+, and if the finale’s cliffhangers are anything to go by, Season 3 is bound to be a wild ride.
Dead City’s new season will be executive produced by Hoffman, along with Scott M. Gimple, Cohan, Morgan, Brian Bockrath, and Colin Walsh.
So sharpen your machetes and brace for impact — The Walking Dead: Dead City is just getting started.
