Age of The Nerd
Horror streaming giant Shudder has once again teamed up with indie horror royalty, the Adams Family, securing the rights to their latest nightmare-fueled creation, Mother of Flies. Set to make its world premiere at the 2025 Fantasia Film Festival on July 24, the film will creep onto the platform in 2026 for viewers in North America, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
Known for their hauntingly original storytelling, the Adams Family—comprised of filmmakers Toby Poser, John Adams, and their daughter Zelda Adams—return to the genre spotlight with another eerie tale that promises to dig deep into both the supernatural and the emotional. The film also features a chilling performance by the couple’s eldest daughter, Lulu Adams, continuing the family’s legacy of crafting bold and blood-streaked cinema together.
In Mother of Flies, viewers will follow Mickey, a young woman facing a terminal diagnosis who refuses to accept her fate. Venturing into the woods with her father, she seeks out Solveig, a mysterious recluse steeped in death magic. What follows is a harrowing three-day descent into darkness as Mickey endures brutal rituals, unlocking ancient powers and disturbing truths buried beneath the earth—and within herself. With reality fraying and spirits closing in, Mother of Flies explores the ultimate cost of survival and the thin, trembling line between life and death.
“We feel like Shudder is family,” said the directors in a joint statement. “It’s a beautiful, creative home for horror lovers, and we’re beyond thrilled to bring Mother of Flies to their wildly passionate audience. For our little clan making bloody magic in the woods, this partnership just feels right. Samuel Zimmerman and the whole Shudder crew have been incredible collaborators every step of the way.”
Zimmerman, Shudder’s VP of Programming, echoed the enthusiasm: “The Adams Family continues to craft some of the most compelling horror stories out there. Mother of Flies is both visceral and poetic—a twisted sister to Hellbender that will linger with you long after the credits roll. We can’t wait for our members to experience its dark beauty.”
The deal was negotiated by Samuel Zimmerman for Shudder, with Hugues Barbier, Justin Timms, and Joe Yanick of Yellow Veil Pictures representing the filmmakers.
Get ready—Mother of Flies is set to cast its spell very soon.
