If M3GAN was a sly satire wrapped in tech-horror chic, M3GAN 2.0 feels like the half-baked update no one asked for.
Rather than pushing the envelope of its killer-AI concept, this sequel plays it frustratingly safe—more obsessed with TikTok-ready quips and over-stylized action than actually deepening the story or characters. What once felt fresh now reeks of franchise fatigue.
The titular android, M3GAN, is still an entertaining presence—sharp-tongued and meme-worthy—but the novelty wears thin fast. Her motivations are murky, and any attempt at exploring themes of digital dependence or the ethics of AI feels surface-level at best. Instead of doubling down on psychological tension or moral complexity, M3GAN 2.0 leans into jump scares and clunky exposition.
New characters are introduced, only to be discarded with little consequence, and returning ones are shoehorned into recycled arcs that rob them of meaningful growth. The pacing drags in places, only to rush toward a finale that feels more like a setup for M3GAN 3.0 than a satisfying conclusion.
Visually, the film is polished—but style can’t save what ultimately feels like an empty sequel, designed more for studio shareholders than horror fans. M3GAN 2.0 might look like an upgrade, but under the hood, it’s the same predictable code running on low battery.
