Age of The Nerd
John Cena returns as Peacemaker for Season 2. The second season was ordered in February 2022, with James Gunn set to write and direct all eight episodes. Filming was expected to begin in 2023, but work was put on hold when Gunn was made co-CEO of DC Studios and switched focus to the film Superman.
John Cena stars as the title character, reprising his role from The Suicide Squad, with Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Robert Patrick, Frank Grillo, Sol Rodríguez, David Denman, and Tim Meadows. The second season will continue the story of Peacemaker, focusing on his struggle to reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose. Rick Flagg Sr. will be seeking revenge against Peacemaker for the death of his son in The Suicide Squad.
When Peacemaker first premiered in 2022, the show’s hilariously bizarre opening sequence soon became one of the most significant talking points amongst fans. James Gunn has recently revealed that fans of the new season can look forward to a brand-new dance number featuring the main cast when the HBO Max series returns, and a brand-new opening song.
The season is set to premiere on the HBO Max streaming service on August 21, 2025, and will consist of eight episodes.
